JOE DIRT ("we," "us," or "our") operates joedirt.net — a platform where landowners post dirt hauling and earthmoving jobs and truckers browse listings, apply, get hired, and complete work. Our tagline is DIRT WORK. DONE RIGHT. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect through the website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you. By creating an account or using JOE DIRT, you agree to this policy and our Terms of Service.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide and information generated when you use JOE DIRT features:

1. Account & profile information

  • Registration details: first name, last name, username, email address, phone number, password (stored securely), and account type (Trucker or Landowner).
  • Profile updates from your Profile page, including profile photo, region, professional title, location, minimum rate, skills, resume content, and work experience history (truckers).
  • Landowner company profiles managed through Manage Companies (company name, logo, and related business details).

2. Jobs, applications & hiring data

  • Job postings (landowners): job title, source location, zip code, region, units to move, geological condition, job category (import/export), special requirements, description, dates (start, closing, move-by), bid price, job images, and application contact email.
  • Job applications (truckers): applicant name, email, bid price, cover message, and uploaded attachments (images, PDF, Word documents).
  • Hire records: hire offers, accept/reject responses, hired status, and platform fee payment records when a landowner completes the hire payment step.
  • Ratings & reviews: star ratings and written feedback submitted after completed jobs.

3. Communications

  • In-platform job chat messages between a landowner and trucker for a specific job application, including optional file attachments (images, PDF, Word, Excel — up to 5 MB per file).
  • Messages submitted through our Contact Us form (name, email, phone, subject, message).
  • Email correspondence we send to you (welcome emails, password resets, application alerts, hire notifications, chat reminders, subscription confirmations).
  • In-app notifications stored in your account (title, message, and link).

4. Payment & subscription information

  • Trucker subscriptions (Monthly or Yearly plans) processed by Stripe, including billing name, billing address (country, state, city, postal code), plan type, amount, subscription status, Stripe customer/subscription IDs, and payment history shown on Payment History pages.
  • Landowner platform hire fee (currently calculated as 5% of the agreed bid price) processed through Stripe when completing a hire. We store transaction amount, status, job/application references, and payment intent details — we do not store full credit or debit card numbers.

5. Technical & usage information

  • Login session data (session cookies that keep you signed in for up to approximately 8 hours of activity).
  • IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited.
  • Google reCAPTCHA data when you register or submit the contact form (to prevent spam and abuse).
  • Cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate JOE DIRT and deliver the services you request, including:

  • Creating and authenticating your account, displaying your username across the platform, and managing your profile.
  • Publishing and displaying job listings on Find Jobs, trucker profiles on Find Truckers, and company listings on Browse Companies.
  • Processing job applications, hire offers, accept/reject responses, application rejections, and closing jobs after a successful hire.
  • Enabling job chat and post-job ratings between landowners and truckers.
  • Verifying active trucker subscriptions before allowing access to browse and apply for jobs.
  • Processing Stripe payments for subscriptions and landowner hire fees, and showing payment history in your dashboard.
  • Sending transactional emails and in-app notifications (e.g., new application received, hire offer, hired confirmation, new chat message, rating reminders, subscription activated).
  • Queueing delayed chat email reminders (sent after a waiting period if you have unread messages).
  • Protecting the platform through spam prevention, reCAPTCHA, contact form safeguards, and job content validation.
  • Responding to support requests and improving website performance and security.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only as needed to run JOE DIRT:

  • Between JOE DIRT users: When you apply for a job, your application details are visible to the landowner who posted it. When you post a job, truckers can see job details and your public profile information. After a hire, both parties can access chat and rating features related to that job. Usernames and profile information are displayed on dashboards, application lists, and browse pages.
  • Job invitations: If a landowner invites you from Find Truckers, we notify you by email and in-app notification with a link to the job.
  • Service providers:
    • Stripe — subscription and hire fee payments.
    • Email service providers — transactional emails (welcome, hire, chat, subscription, password reset).
    • Google reCAPTCHA — bot protection on registration and contact forms.
    • Hosting & CDN providers — website hosting, fonts, and scripts (Bootstrap, Font Awesome).
  • Legal & safety: When required by law, to respond to lawful requests, or to protect JOE DIRT, our users, or the public from harm or fraud.

Uploaded Files & Storage

Files you upload are stored on JOE DIRT servers to operate the platform:

  • Profile photos — /uploads/ profile directory.
  • Job images — uploaded when landowners post or edit jobs.
  • Company logos — uploaded through company management pages.
  • Application attachments — submitted with job applications.
  • Chat attachments — shared in job chat conversations.

Do not upload sensitive personal documents unless necessary for your work on the platform. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share uploaded content.

How Long We Keep Information

We retain information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide JOE DIRT services, including:

  • Job postings, applications, hire records, chat messages, ratings, and payment records — retained to support ongoing work, dispute resolution, ratings history, and legal compliance even after a job is marked completed or closed.
  • Subscription and payment history — retained for billing records and account management.
  • Notifications — retained in your account until read or removed according to platform settings.

You may request account deletion by contacting us. Some records may be retained where required by law, for fraud prevention, or to resolve disputes.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for data transmitted between your browser and joedirt.net.
  • Secure password storage and session management (HttpOnly session cookies, periodic session regeneration).
  • Access controls so only authorized users (the landowner, hired trucker, or account owner) can view job applications and chat threads.
  • Stripe-hosted payment fields so card details are handled directly by Stripe, not stored on our servers.

No system is completely secure. Please use a strong password and do not share your login credentials.

Your Choices & Rights

You can:

  • Update your profile information anytime from Profile or Landowner Profile pages.
  • Manage your jobs, applications, and subscriptions from your trucker or landowner dashboard.
  • Log out to end your session on a device.
  • Control cookies through your browser (see our Cookie Policy).
  • Contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, subject to legal and operational requirements.

Service-related emails (hire updates, payment confirmations, security alerts) may still be sent even if you opt out of promotional messages, because they are necessary to operate your account.

Children's Privacy

JOE DIRT is intended for adults 18 years or older who operate hauling businesses or manage land/construction projects. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18. Contact us if you believe a minor has created an account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when we add new features to JOE DIRT (such as new payment options, communication tools, or profile fields). The Last updated date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of joedirt.net after an update means you accept the revised policy.
