This Cookie Policy explains how JOE DIRT (joedirt.net) uses cookies and similar storage technologies when you visit our website, create an account, subscribe as a trucker, pay hire fees as a landowner, or use features like job chat and dashboards. Please read this together with our Privacy Policy.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your login, preferences, and settings. Similar technologies include session storage, local storage, and browser cache used by payment and security providers.
Cookies JOE DIRT Uses
We group the cookies and similar technologies on joedirt.net as follows:
1. Strictly necessary (required for the site to work)
- PHP session cookie (
PHPSESSIDor similar) — keeps you logged in after you sign in at Login. Your session remains active for up to approximately 8 hours of activity. This cookie is HttpOnly (not accessible to JavaScript) for security. - Authentication state — remembers whether you are logged in as a Trucker or Landowner so you can access your dashboard, My Applications, My Jobs, Manage Jobs, chat, and other account pages.
- Security cookies — support session regeneration and protection against session fixation attacks.
Without these cookies, you cannot log in or use account features on JOE DIRT.
2. Functional cookies
- Remember form inputs and UI preferences during your visit (for example, while posting a job, editing your profile, or completing a multi-step subscription checkout).
- Support notification and dashboard display preferences while you are on the site.
3. Third-party service cookies
- Set by providers we use to deliver specific JOE DIRT features (see next section).
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies to sell your data to marketers. JOE DIRT does not run a third-party ad network on joedirt.net.
Third-Party Cookies on JOE DIRT
When you use certain JOE DIRT features, trusted third parties may set their own cookies:
| Provider | When it is used on JOE DIRT | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Trucker subscription checkout, landowner 5% hire fee payment | Secure payment processing, fraud prevention, and checkout session management |
| Google reCAPTCHA | Register and Contact Us forms (when enabled) | Distinguish real users from bots and prevent spam registrations |
| jsDelivr / Cloudflare CDN | All pages (Bootstrap CSS/JS, Font Awesome icons) | Fast delivery of stylesheets and scripts |
| Google Fonts | All pages (Inter font family) | Consistent typography across the site |
These providers may collect technical data such as IP address and browser information according to their own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing:
How Long Cookies Last
- Session cookies — deleted when you close your browser or when your JOE DIRT login session expires (up to ~8 hours of inactivity).
- Stripe cookies — may persist during and briefly after a payment session to complete the transaction securely.
- reCAPTCHA cookies — set during form submission on Register and Contact pages; duration controlled by Google.
- CDN/font cookies — typically short-lived, used for content delivery performance.
How to Control Cookies
You can manage cookies in the following ways:
- Browser settings — block or delete cookies in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Blocking all cookies will prevent you from logging in to JOE DIRT and using account features.
- Log out — click Logout in your account menu to end your session and clear the login session cookie on that device.
- Do not complete payment — if you do not want Stripe cookies, do not proceed through subscription or hire fee checkout (you will not be able to complete those payments).
- Skip registration — you can browse public pages without an account, but registration requires session and reCAPTCHA cookies when enabled.
Instructions vary by browser. Search your browser's help section for "clear cookies" or "manage cookies."
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. JOE DIRT does not currently respond to DNT signals because there is no industry standard for how to handle them. You can still control cookies using the options described above.
Updates to This Policy
We will update this Cookie Policy if we add new tools to JOE DIRT (for example, new payment methods, analytics, or login options) that use cookies. Check the Last updated date at the top of this page. Significant changes may be noted on the website.
